The Pennyroyal Center established Genesis in 2012 as a short-term, residential substance use treatment facility providing services to individuals with co-occurring disorders. In 2017, Genesis expanded treatment services to Genesis West, a 16-bed women’s facility, and Genesis East, a 24-bed men’s facility. As licensed dual diagnosis treatment facilities, Genesis East and West achieved accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as an American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Level of Care 3.5 and focuses on person-centered treatment goals to address substance use and behavioral health issues.

The Genesis East and West treatment philosophy incorporates personal choice through a client-centered treatment approach utilizing objective assessment and multimodality therapies and introduces community support groups and 12-step programs. Evidence-based treatment modalities have demonstrated successful outcomes with the development and maintenance of sobriety, increased feelings of self-esteem, self-efficacy, self-worth, and a healthy balanced lifestyle. Genesis incorporates a combination of treatment strategies that provide a holistic approach to address the unique needs of individuals. This method allows us to identify and address the many factors contributing to addiction, mental health issues, and other self-destructive behaviors and empower individuals to live a successful, stable, and drug-free life. Individuals receive all services in the least restrictive environment possible.

During the treatment process, individuals participate in an intense and structured treatment routine that is person-centered and tailored to their needs. Treatment services include individual therapy, family therapy, psychotherapy groups, case management, psychiatric medication management, Adult Peer Support services, and educational classes specific to topics such as chemical dependency, mental health, Living in Balance, Anger Management, 12-Step programming, health, nutrition, coping skills, and relapse prevention. Individuals are also eligible for Program Good Time Credit through the Department of Corrections and receive a certificate of completion for Active Parenting classes. Treatment activities outside the facility include 12-Step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, optional faith-based recovery services and church attendance, service work opportunities within the community, recreation, and attendance at other recovery based events. LivWell also provides optional anonymous HIV and Hepatitis C testing once a month to individuals while involved in the program.

It is of utmost importance to us at Genesis to work together as a team to meet the needs of each individual we serve. We combine evidence based approaches alongside experience, strength, and hope to walk them through the process of recovery not only from alcohol and drugs, but from the behavioral, emotional, and thinking patterns that accompany addiction. Our goal is to motivate individuals towards lasting change that will result in building an impactful life for themselves and the many others who are part of their story. I believe our hearts are fully in everything that we do and that is what sets our treatment facilities apart.
